2025 Campaign — Call for Volunteers

The Dinu Theodorescu Archaeological Laboratory is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the summer 2025 volunteer campaign. Activities will take place at the laboratory’s two main sites: the ancient city of Histria (Constanța County) and the Hallstatt necropolis at Beidaud (Tulcea County).

What We Offer Volunteers

By joining our campaigns, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work alongside a team of researchers with international experience
  • Learn the basic techniques of field archaeological excavation
  • Participate in the processing and cataloguing of materials in the laboratory
  • Visit museums and archaeological sites in the region
  • Receive a volunteer certificate that is academically recognised

Accommodation and meals are provided by the laboratory for the duration of the campaign. Volunteers are responsible for their own transport to the site.

Participation Requirements

We welcome students from any year of study (not only from humanities disciplines), graduates, and anyone aged 18 or over who wishes to contribute to the study of cultural heritage. No prior experience is required — everything is taught on site.

Volunteers must be available for a minimum of two consecutive weeks. The campaign runs throughout July and August 2025.

How to Apply

Complete the volunteer form on the Contact page of the website. We will respond within 10 working days to confirm your place and provide logistical details.

Available Places

There are 20 places available at the Histria site and 10 places at the Beidaud site. Applications are processed in order of receipt, until all places are filled.

We look forward to having you join us in the field!
